Remember Me Once Again

Samson has always been such an interesting Biblical story to me. Samson was one of the few individuals selected to serve as a judge for God. His birth was a gift from God to his parents since they could not have children (1 Samuel 14). He was blessed with immense strength as long as He kept his Nazarene vow according to the promise God made with his parents. Yet, Samson seems to have been spoiled by his parents and grew to be a rash, petulant man. He pursued his desires relentlessly, and it eventually cost him everything.

Samson’s downfall begins when marries Delilah, a Philistine woman he loved, who betrayed him. She tricked him into revealing that the secret of his strength was his uncut hair. While he slept, Delilah had his hair cut, and Samson was captured by the Philistines, who blinded and enslaved him. While enslaved, Samson was mocked by the Philistines, who frequently brought him out to entertain them. During one of these moments, Samson’s heart finally turned back to God. Samson prayed these prayer:

Then Samson called to the Lord, saying, “O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”

God heard Samson’s prayer. He gave Samson back his strength. Samson pushed against the two pillars he was chained to, causing the roof to collapse and killing himself along with 3,000 Philistine men and women, including many of their lords. So, what does Samson’s story mean to us?

Maybe you find yourself like Samson. You’ve pursued your own desires so long, and so far, you don’t know how to get out of the pit. Samson’s story tells us that if you truly turn your heart back to God and ask Him for help. He will remember you. He will help you. But that’s the key – truly turning back to God. We know Samson’s heart truly turned back to God due to his inclusion in the hall of the faithful in Hebrews 11. God only remembered Samson because Samson truly remembered God.

God remembered Samson. Now, Samson’s choice came with earthly consequences, which ultimately included his death, BUT Samson’s decision to turn back to God changed everything for him. God remembered Him. God helped Samson to end his earthly suffering and pulled Samson’s soul from the pit. If God remembered Samson, God will remember you. #Remember
