A Little Less Conversation

I just finished lecturing on Elvis in one of my courses. One of his many hits is “A Little Less Conversation.” The opening line of the song is a little less conversation, a little more action, please… Elvis sings this song in 1968 as a social protest song – calling for less words and more actions from America leaders during the tumultuous 60s. Don’t we all feel this way at times? We get tired of empty words? Shallow promises. We tire of leaders or politicians or bosses talking but then doing nothing. We want less talk, more action.

Interestingly enough, God is the same way. He doesn’t want us to say we love him, he wants us to act on that love. He doesn’t want us to just say we love our brothers and our enemies, he wants us to show that love. God doesn’t want nor does he tolerate empty words and thoughts. He expects action and follow through.

Don’t just say you love God, prove it by how you act.
Don’t just say you love others, prove it what you do.

So, give God less conversation and more action. It’s your deeds that prove your words.
