From the Pit

Repeatedly in the Old Testament writers express the idea of the Lord pulling or redeeming their life from the pit.

It’s a beautiful analogy and so multilayered.

So, if you’re in a dark place. You’ve fallen into what appears to be a bottomless pit. Maybe you’re there because of your own decisions like Jonah. Maybe your there because of someone else’s actions like David when he was on the run from Saul. How you got there doesn’t matter.

And we were all in the pit of sin. A dark hole that seemed unending with no light…until the Maker of light reached His hand down and pulled us up.

There is only one way out of the pit. There’s only one way of out the bottomless black hole of sun. Because there is only one who can and will reach down immediately when you call out to Him. God will you out of the pit if you come to Him. He will redeem your life and eventually your soul from the pit.

And Jesus wants to pull us out. He knows what it feels like to live on this earth and experience all the pain it brings. He knows what it is like to suffer and die. He doesn’t want to leave you sinking in the rotting clay of the earth and free falling into its abyss.

No instead He wants to save you and redeem your life from the pit. He defeated the pains of this life and even death itself for you. And, when you let Him – He not only pulls you out but places you immediately open solid indestructible ground. The Rock of Jehovah God.

He wants to pull you out of darkness and place you in the unapproachable majestic light of Jehovah God.

“He also brought me up out of a horrible
pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon the Rock and established my steps.”

  • Psalm 40

So, Blessed be the Lord of my soul…who redeemed my life from the pit and then crowned me with His lovingkindness and infinite mercies.

  • Psalm 103

  1. I don’t know how I would face my tomorrows and upheavals without Jesus.

“while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!”
