A Good Soldier for Christ

The armed forces have always been super important to me and my family. My grandpa was a WWII veteran and my Dad is a retired Army Captain who spent the rest of his career working for the DoD. This is probably why when choosing fields for my PhD two of my five fields deal in some way with the military. And since this month features Memorial Day in the US – the day which we remember and honor those who died in combat – I thought it would be a good time to explore a military theme found throughout the Scriptures.

So, welcome to our May study. This month we wkll be exploring what it means to be a soldier for Christ and to fight under Jehovah’s banner.

Paul tells us that good soldiers for Christ endure hardships. So, let’s break this down.

🪖A soldier is an individual engaged in a military service, an enlisted man or woman, a skilled warrior.
🪖 Good means to be favorable, reliable, steady, of quality.
🪖 Hardships indicated the task will not be an easy one.

So, if we are going to be a GOOD soldier for Christ:

🪖We must enlist – willingly join – Jehovah’s army.
🪖We must learn to be a quality soldier for Christ. A soldier who is reliable, steady, pleasing, and represents his/her commander well.
🪖 We must engage in military services for our commander – Christ. We cannot shy away from the battlefield.
🪖Prepare ourselves for the hard times that come with being a soldier.
