Welcome to February! I’m excited to post our Scripture reading plan and theme for the month. Sin’s Great Masquerade will examine how Satan disguises his true intentions by using things that initially appear harmless. In the retelling of the Fall of Man, Moses describes Satan as the most cunning of all (Gen. 3:1) to help his reader understand how Eve and Adam fell for his tricks. He is cunning, sneaky, and crafty. Jesus tells us exactly who Satan is:
He [the Devil] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44)
This month, we will uncover how Satan disguises his true intentions in seemingly innocent forms. He uses family, money, friendships, love, rest, security, happiness, beauty, politics, zeal, and much more to ensnare the faithful in sin. Since followers of Christ strive to avoid overt evil, the Devil works tirelessly to conceal his traps. We must remember that anything – no matter how innocent or harmless it may appear or begin – can be used by Satan to lure us away from God.
