During Israel’s wandering, they were attacked by the Canaanites. In response to the needless attack, Israel prayed to the Lord and made the following promise:
Then Israel made this vow to the Lord: “If you will deliver these people into our hands, we will totally destroy their cities.” The Lord listened to Israel’s plea and gave the Canaanites over to them. They completely destroyed them and their towns; so the place was named Hormah.
We’ve already discussed the idea of making conditional vows to God and how such vows often arise during vastly different circumstances. Now, I’d like to highlight one significant observation from Israel’s vow.
Israel made the vow, and God listened and answered by delivering the Canaanites into their hands. The Israelites honored their vow by completely destroying the Canaanites and their towns.
God hears the vows we make to Him, even when they are conditional. While He expects us to fulfill our promises, He is faithful to uphold His part as well —as long as it aligns with His will.
Sometimes, when we make this type of vow, our conditions may conflict with God’s will or fall outside His greater plan. It’s important to recognize that God may choose not to engage in the vow we propose, but He always hears them. However, if our conditions align with His will, He will respond and participate.
So, when you make your vow to God, the Lord is listening. #KeepYourWord
