The holiday season can be hectic, filled with endless festivities and obligations that quickly consume our time and energy. The to-do and to-go lists seem endless. And while most of us enjoy the holiday time, it can be stressful and all-consuming. But for others, this time of year brings different challenges. Some may find themselves spending time with family members they’d rather avoid, while others grapple with the absence of loved ones they would give anything to see again. It’s too easy during the holidays to become absorbed in our circumstances. We often lose sight of God and the many blessings He has bestowed upon us.
When life feels chaotic and busy, or lonely and challenging, King David wrote the perfect psalm to help us refocus our minds on what truly matters—God and His many blessings. Psalm 103 is a praise psalm thanking God for His endless mercy, forgiveness, and love. It begins with the perfect verse to meditate on during the busy or unsettling times of our lives
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits,
Don’t forget all that God has done for you and praise Him for all your soul for it is God who forgives your sins, heals your diseases, redeems your life from the pit, crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, and satisfies you with good.
