You Made Me

Have you ever faced an experience so painful that you questioned why God created you? You’re not alone in that thought. Job endured immense suffering due to Satan’s temptations. He lost all his material possessions, his children, and even the support of his wife, who essentially abandoned him during his trials. To make matters worse, most of his friends, save one, blamed him for his misfortunes.

You can read one of Job’s prayers to God in Job 10. He begins by telling God

I loathe my life; therefore, I will give free rein to my complaint
    and speak out in the bitterness of my soul.”

Honestly is always the best policy, especially when speaking to God. Job doesn’t understand why all this has happened to him, nor does he see an end to his misery. He asks God, “Do you have eyes of flesh? Do you see as a mortal sees?” Amid his prayer, Job cries out, “Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again?” Job wonders if God remembers that He made Job. He wonders if the maker would destroy His creation? Is this truly what God made Job for? To suffer? Job’s entire prayer is filled with sadness, confusion, and bitterness. Yet, he brings all of these raw emotions honestly before God.

Even in the depths of his confusion, pain, and suffering, Job recognizes that God has not truly abandoned him. Deep in his heart, Job knew that even though he couldn’t understand why all this had happened to him, God had not forgotten him. You can see the best in Job’s declaration in Job 19 when he proclaims:

 I know that my Redeemer lives,
    and that in the end He will stand on the earth.
And after my skin has been destroyed,
    yet in my flesh I will see God;
I myself will see him
    with my own eyes—I, and not another.

Maybe you are struggling and suffering like Job. Perhaps you have even wondered, like Job, if God remembers that He made you. He does. Job knew the Lord lived, and even if his life was destroyed, Job knew one day see God. He knew it. So, in your moment of immense sadness and suffering, remember God sees you. And He remembers He made you. Look to Him in those darkest hours. He will always be there. #Remember
