The Gift from God

If you’re anything like me, when you aren’t busy, you get bored or feel restless. Don’t get me wrong – I do enjoy relaxing but most of my relaxing activities include ‘work.’ I feel more centered and purposeful when I’m actively doing something. I also find that I am much less likely to get into trouble when I’m busy doing things I need to do. You know the old adage “idle hands are the Devil’s workshop.” The concept behind that saying is rooted in Bibliacl teachings. And the feeling of restlessness we get when we aren’t working or being productive is rooted in our God – given DNA.

Solomon tells us work is a gift from God. He gave it to us to feel productive and to have meaning in our day-to-day life.

Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God. – Eccl. 5:19

God has given us work and blesses us with the fruit of our work – wealth, possessions, and power. While God wants us to enjoy those blessings, He also expects us to work and use the blessings from our work in a meaningful way. We should have the right attitude about our work. We should look at our work as a way to improve our lives through accessing God’s blessings and as a way to shine our light for God for in this dark work.

Both King Solomon and the Apostle Paul give us some insights into how we can work in a meaningful and keep the Devil out of work.

Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. – Eph. 4:28

In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty. – Pro. 14:23

Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys. – Pro. 18:9

For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. – 2 Thess. 3:10

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. – 1 Tim. 5:8

So, here we get some insights into our attitude toward work and our work ethnic.

💪 We are to do honest work and share the blessings from our work with others.

💪 It is our responsibility to work so we can provide for our families and loved ones.

💪 We are to be workers not talkers. Don’t talk about working – work.

💪 A lazy worker is no different than someone who brings destruction to their family.

💪 If we aren’t willing to work, we shouldn’t expect to reap the fruits or rewards of others.

Working is a gift from God. He gives it to us to provide an avenue for His blessings, to give our physical lives meaning, and to help us help others. He also expects us to work. He does not want us to be lazy or unproductive. God expects us to be honest, hard-working people. God wants us to be a people who are willing to work and willing to share with others. #laborersforGod #WorkingForGod
