So, we’ve established that we all have to work and that when we work we must first consider how work to be to and for the Lord. Solomon gives us a little more insight into our attitude toward work.
Commit your work to the Lord,
and He will establish your plans. – Proverbs 16:3 (ESV)
Solomon is telling us that we should put our reliance or trust in the Lord regarding our work. If we look to God and trust in Him in the small things and big things – the tedious things and the important things – then God will sure up – establish – direct – your plans.
I like to look at other translations of the verses to gets some additional insights so here are some additional translations:
💪 Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. (CEB)
💪 If you entrust all you do to Adonai, your plans will achieve success. (CJB)
💪 Share your plans with the Lord, and you will succeed. (CEV)
💪 Lay open thy works to the Lord: and thy thoughts shall be directed. (DRA)
💪 Turn to the Lord for help in everything you do, and you will be successful. (ERV)
💪 Entrust your efforts to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. (GW)
💪 Depend on the Lord in whatever you do. Then your plans will succeed. (ICB)
💪 Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place. (MSG)
Notice what is key to our plans succeeding – depending, turning, and trusting in God. We are to share our plans. Consult with God about our plans. Ask Him for help. Put Him in charge of our plans and our life so that He can best direct our paths.
So, regardless of what you are working on – maybe it’s a job change or promotion, a work or school assignment, a family endeavor, a task for your local church, a community undertaking, a labor of love, or a self-improvement project – commit your work first to God. Trust Him to direct your decisions and path. It takes trust and courage to give control of your plans to God but it is the only way to find true lasting success. #LaborsersForGod
