I Will Listen to My Teacher

Back in the day, when students needed to remember an important lesson they were instructed to write it repeatedly. Now, sometimes that was a form of punishment – write “I will not disrespect my teacher” 100 times before you can go to recess. Other times it was a method used to help the student remember. I can’t tell you how many times I wrote the multiplication table. My dad is really into math – so we worked on it repeatedly. I only the otherhand wasn’t so great initially. So, I said them, wrote them, practiced them, read them, flash carded them, etc. Over and over again until I mastered them. Until any time I heard 12×12 I immediately knew the answer was 144. (Thanks Dad). Either way – it was a repeating the concept or lesson via writing it done or saying it over and over again was meant to ingrain the idea or lesson into the student’s mind.

I think this is a method followers of God should repeat. We should repeat over and over again the instructions the Lord has given us. Write them, say them, and read them repeatedly like multiplication is for me now – God’s instructions become second nature for us.

What could this look like for us? Writing verses over and over. I love writing Scripture and doodling and writing out my thoughts and ideas around them. It makes me remember. It helps me see connections. It could look like this…

✏️ Joshua 22:5 – Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you. God not only wants us to know His Laws but to carefully observe them.

✏️ Prov. 4:13 Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is your life. God’s instructions are the key to life – never let go.

✏️ James 1:5 – If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. God knows we don’t understand everything and wants us to ask Him for help.

✏️ Prov. 1:7 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Understanding God’s true nature is the beginning of knowledge.

✏️ Prov. 15:33 – The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor. To fear God is to be wise and only fools despise wisdom.

✏️ Deut. 5:1 – Hear, Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and be sure to follow themGod has given us His law – we must learn them.

✏️ Isaiah 1:17Learn to do right; seek justice…God has told us how to live so we must learn to live how God wants us to live.

✏️ Psalm 25:4 -5 – Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation…Only God can teach us the paths to truth because God is the source of salvation.

Only by spending time…lots and lots of time… with God and His teachings will we come to learn and remember them. So, let’s return to the method our teachers used with us as children. We are after all God’s children.

Let the Master Teacher…teach you. Read, write, and repeat God’s laws so you can learn them and they become sketched into you hearts. #GodsPupils #TheMasterTeacher
