One of the marks of a truly great teacher is if they are willing and able to help their students understand the content they are providing. It is not particular hard to provide information to students – AI, Google, etc, all do that. But Chat GPT does not teach. AI does not impart understanding. They just provide information. To many that may seem like semantics but giving information and imparting understanding is very different. Teaching is very different than telling.
God is not only the master teller – the provider of information – He is the master teacher. In Psalm 119, David describes how much of a master teller and teacher God truly is. David details how perfect God’s laws are. He praises how thoroughly complete God’s word is. He thanks God for being the master provider of His laws. And, repeatedly asked God to teach him His ways.
One such example is found in vs. 73:
Your hands made me and formed me;
give me understanding to learn your commands.
David’s request is simple. Since God is David’s maker, only God can teach David how to understand His laws and commands. Only God can impart true understanding of His commands. David does not want a substitute teacher. He desires to be taught by the master teacher – God.
So many people look for understanding in this life from substitute teachers. But the stand in teachers always come up lacking. Why? Depends on the substitute. They don’t teach true skills. They don’t have all the information. They ignore the lesson plans and teach what they want. They provide misinformation. They ignore their students. They require too much or too little. They elevate themselves above the actual teacher. They aren’t properly trained. They are after all – just a substitute – a stand in – for the real teacher.
There is only one teacher that can provide you true understanding to navigate this life. It is the one who formed and made you – Yahweh – the Living God. Only He can help you understand the meaning of this life. Only he can teach you His ways. Only He can give your life meaning. Only He can teach you how to truly learn His commands.
Are you tired of your substitute teacher? Then, be like David and ask God to become your teacher. He will and you’ll never need another teacher again. Stop relying on substitutes to do for you what only the master teacher can. #GodsPupil #TheMasterTeacher
