Psalm 27 is one of my favorite Psalms. It is a Psalm of David during which he praises God for salvation from His enemies and expresses his complete love and trust in Yahweh (David uses God’s covenant name 13 times throughout the Psalm). David begins:
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
David proclaims that even when his enemies had surrounded him he did not fear because He knew the Lord God was with him. He was confident in his victory and safety because God had promised it to him. God had promised to protect him.
It is nestled in this Psalm that David writes:
Teach me your way, O Lord,
and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies. (vs. 11).
This stanza is the opening line of the last verse of Psalm. David begins his concluding remarks with a request for God to teach him His ways. Why? David states plainly – God’s ways will lead him on the level path and protect him from his adversaries.
David didn’t look within himself for the straight path. He didn’t look within himself for ways to defeat his enemies. He turned to God and asked God to teach him the right ways and lead him on the level paths.
Frequently when we face enemies or adversity, we look within ourselves or ask our friends on how to deal with the situation. We decide within ourself what is the right path to take. Unlike David, we often try to do things on our own way without first seeking help from God. It is when we do that our enemies advance on us or our adversities grow. Why? Because we have not asked God to help us find the straight path through the difficult times.
Why do we stubbornly try to do things our way? Because God’s path is frequently harder, requires more from us, and often does not provide us instantaneous relief. But David tells us:
Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
Wait for the Lord!
Are you going through difficult times? Do you find yourself surrounded by enemies? Do you fill like your are drowning in adversity? Read Psalm 27 and follow David’s example.
🍎 Thank Yahweh for all that He has done for you.
✏️ Look to the Lord for refuge.

Remember, God’s ways may take longer and may be harder than you want but they are the ways that will bring you to salvation. #GodsPupils #TheMasterTeacher

It is true that God’s way may prove to be more difficult in the present and may take longer to work out it’s beauty, but it is always the best way. God sees the beginning, the middle and the end. Psalm 27 is beautiful! It wraps its arms around God’s children and brings comfort and peace.
