Fire in the Cloud

When the children of Israel finally completed constructing the Tabernacle, the glory of God came and filled the Tabernacle. As long as the cloud during the day and the fire at night were present, so was God.

In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

The cloud and fire indicated God’s presence and communicated God’s wishes to the children of Israel. When the cloud and fire dissipated, it was time for the Israelites to leave that campsite. They were not to stop traveling until it returned.

We can learn two important things about God’s fire from the account in Exodus 40.

🔥 The cloud and fire communicated God’s presence and glory. It filled and surrounded the Tabernacle. God used fire to demonstrate His presence and illustrate His glory.

🔥 The cloud and fire also communicated God’s instructions. The children of Israel were to follow the cloud/fire. If it moved, they moved. If it remained, the remained. They were instructed to always follow the glory of God. By doing so, God would always be in their presence.

We should follow the Israelites example. They followed the presence and glory of God. They wanted to always be in His presence. Where His glory went, they followed. God’s fire helped guide their way to His glory. #GodsConsumingFire
