The Great Mountain

In the book of Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream that none of his dream interpreters can explain to him (Daniel 2). Eventually, Daniel is brought to the king because of his reputation for accurately predicting the future by interpreting dreams. Nebuchadnezzar’s dream was a complicated dream of a statue made of great statute made of multiple pieces of metal. But once the statue was completely constructed in his dream, an odd stone hit the toe of the statue and the entire statue crumbed, turned to dust, and was blown away by the wind. All that remained was the stone that then grew into a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

Daniel tells Nebuchadnezzar the meaning of his dream. Each part of the statue – made from different metals – represented future kingdoms/empires of men. And each empire will build upon the previous one to create their empire. Yet, as each empire builds the statue becomes weaker because it is diluted with different metals. Each new empire is inferior to the previous. And one day, God will decide to build is kingdom but His kingdom will not be part of this statue nor will look like all the other kingdoms. To man’s eyes it will appear as a small odd stone but it will be stronger than all the other kingdom’s of this world. It will outlast the kingdoms of this world. And one day when it is seen for all its glory – it will appear as a great mountain that fills the whole earth.

God’s kingdom is described as a great mountain. God’s mountain will seem to many like an insignificant boulder, stone, or hill. But the kingdoms of men are weak, self-destructive, and self-consuming. They do not take God’s kingdom seriously yet it is God’s kingdom that will outlast all of their kingdoms. It is God’s kingdom that will fill the whole earth. it is God’s great mountain that will last forever.

God’s kingdom is God’s greatest mountain. #TheMountainsofGod #MountaineeringForGod
