Mount Zion – Where God Dwells

One of the really interesting concepts introduced in Psalms is the idea that God’s people are actually Mount Zion.

We’ve see this in the last two days of our readings.

Psalm 74:2

Remember the nation you purchased long ago,
the people of your inheritance, whom you redeemed—
Mount Zion, where you dwelt.

Psalm 78:68

but He chose the tribe of Judah,
Mount Zion, which He loves.

In both Psalms, the chosen people of God are referred to as Mount Zion because God dwelt with them and He loves them.

The idea that Mount Zion is God’s chosen people is a beautiful concept. Wherever God dwells is Mount Zion and God only dwells with His people. God dwelt with the children of Israel in the tabernacle and later in the temple. He was with them as a pillar of fire and clouds.

This is a New Testament teaching as well. Repeatedly, we are told that Christ dwells within us.

🏔️ But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness. – Romans 8:12

🏔️ I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me. – Galatians 2:20

🏔️ That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love. – Eph. 3:17

These are just a few examples where Paul tells us that Christ dwells within us. So, where God dwells so is Mount Zion. It is so cool to think about being part of God’s mountain.

Become part of Mount Zion. Obey the Lord and follow only Him. Let Him live in you and in so doing you will become part of Mount Zion. #mountaineeringforgod #themountainsofgod
