The Most Beautiful Mountain

David describes God’s mountain:

Psalm 48

Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God!
His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation,
is the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King.

God’s mountain is the most beautiful mountain. It is the highest in elevation. It is so glorious it brings joy to all the earth and all the kings of the earth behold it.

For behold, the kings assembled;
they came on together.
As soon as they saw it, they were astounded…

Not only are they astounded by God’s holy mountain, many tremble at its sight and run away in fear and panic:

they were in panic; they took to flight.

But David tells us those who seek God and turn to God for help do not have to fear the mountain because God will guide them to the top. He will guide His people forever. And they will one day reach the top – the home of His city, fortress, and palace.

For this God is our God for ever and ever;
He will be our guide even to the end.

Finally, David tells us:

Within her citadels God
has made himself known as a fortress.

God makes Himself known to those who enter His palace. He becomes a mighty fortress to all those who ascend. Nothing will ever break down the walls of God’s fortress. He will forever serve as our soul’s
citadel.

Who wouldn’t want to climb the most glorious mountain they ever created or envisioned? Imagine the most beautiful mountain and think about what it would be like to be atop that mountain. Now, that mind image is doesn’t even get close to God’s
Mountain which is the most beautiful mountain to ever exist.

Don’t miss God’s mountain. There is and never will
