Before the Mountains…

This month we will be exploring the theme of mountains in the Bible.

Mountains play an incredibly important role in the Scriptures. Some of – if not all – the most important events of the Bible happen on a hill or mountain. Why do you think that is?

My favorite song, La Belle Fleur Sauvage, by Lord Huron I think summarizes the answer perfectly for in the first verse:

“What you’re looking for won’t be found easily
It grows upon the mountain, in a sacred place
Up beyond the clouds an ancient ground, so they say
And many men have died trekking up that way.”

The most meaningful things in this life are the hardest things to find. They require hard work and commitment and if you aren’t serious about finding them you’ll get lost along the way.

God in His awesome wisdom not only created mountains for us to enjoy – looking and climbing – but to learn from.

🗻 Mountains remind us of our smallness compared to God’s greatness.
🗻 Mountains challenge us to do hard things.
🗻 Mountains provide us with some of this world’s best rewards.

To begin, let’s reflect on how great mountains truly are. I’ve stood on many mountains. I’ve hiked them. They are amazing and yet God is greater than any of this world’s mountains. Why? Because He made them. They came from His mind. There’s nothing more humbling than absorbing that lesson atop a mountain.

So, remember as we go through this month – it is not a coincidence that God uses mountains to teach us lessons. He used them physically and metaphorically to teach us about Him, our life here on earth, and the reward we will one day receive for our hard work. #mountaineeringforgod #TheMountainsofGod
