Paul tells us to take up two additional pieces of equipment to complete our spiritual armor: The helmet of salvation and the Sword of the Spirit.
🪖The helmet safeguards vital organs and enables you to maintain clarity of thought.
🗡️ The sword serves as both a defensive and offensive weapon, empowering christians to confidently engage in spiritual battles and emerge victorious.
Today, we will focus on the helmet of salvation.
I’ve always wondered what the helmet of salvation really means. While the other pieces of armor seem easy to understand (or at least to me), I’ve always struggled to understand the helmet of salvation. But, as I thought (and think) about it becomes clearer why our helmet is made of salvation.
Salvation is our deliverance from sin and punishment. The cost of our salvation was God’s only son Jesus. In order to receive that salvation, we must truly appreciate that sacrifice and that appreciation motivates us to obedience. It inspires us to want to stand for God. It provides our minds peace – with God, ourselves, and others. It guides our thinking. It shifts our focus and perspective. Without it, we are sitting ducks for the Devil.
🪖 The helmet of salvation protects our minds from Satan. When we don the helmet of salvation, we allow God’s laws and guidance to shield our minds from sinful thoughts. We instead think on things that are good, holy, righteous, and true.
🪖 The helmet protects our minds from this world and creates a protective covering to ensure we can renew our minds daily by focusing on God’s salvation and what that truly means for us.
🪖 The helmet of salvation gives us peace. While the world around us is in chaos, we find peace in our salvation.
Interestingly enough, Paul is not the inspired writer to discuss the helmet of salvation. Isaiah tells us the Lord wears the helmet of salvation (Isaiah 59). In the Isaiah passage, God donned his helmet of salvation and breastplate of righteousness to fight injustice and to protect the innocent. It is God’s salvation that stands against the injustices committed by Israel.
🪖So, not only does the helmet of salvation protect our minds from the Devil but it also helps us to stand for or against the things God does. It shapes our thinking to become more like God’s thinking. And that in turn shapes our actions. We stand for what God stands for and against those that God opposes.
So, take up the helmet of salvation. Protect the most important thing God gave you – your mind. It not only is the power house of your physical body but it is the central location of your spiritual self – your soul. It governs your actions and your thoughts. It must be protected.
God’s offered salvation is the only true and lasting protection for your mind. Only God’s helmet can protect you and guide you. Don’t leave home without it. 🪖🪖🪖 #soldiersforChrist #TheLordIsMyBanner
