When running long distances, there are many times when you are alone. Runners are spaced out and it’s just you and your run. Sometimes that can be awesome. Sometimes that can be discouraging or deflating or lonely or even scary. Your mental and physical struggles go unnoticed because no one is there. You don’t run past a cheer group or see another person miles and you become concerned whether you can actually finish this run. Or, you actually get a little scared. You’re out here alone on this super long run. Will anyone be around to help you if you get hurt? What it something bad happens – will there be any witnesses or anyone to help you?
We experience these same feelings on our spiritual run. It’s a super long ultra run. And sometimes we feel as though we are running it alone because our struggles go unnoticed by others. We are not getting encouragement or support. And sometimes, we run through spaces that are actually quite scary. It’s uncharted areas for you. Maybe it’s a Health crisis – Financial crisis – Mental crisis – Family crisis – Job crisis. Or maybe it’s your emotional state. You’re disappointed – in sorrow – scared – angry – lonely. All these times in our lives can be isolating and scary.
When we run into those times, God reminds us through Isaiah that we are never truly alone- God is always with us. And when we are weak and struggling, it is God who personally strengthens us and helps us. He holds us in the palm of His hand.
So when we’re running our spiritual race and begin to feel scared and alone, we need to really open our eyes and look. God is there running with us every step of the way. He is there to help us, encourage us, strengthen us, and protect us. He wants us to finish the race and He has and is doing all He can to help us get there. The rest is up to us.
👟 Are we going to really open our eyes and see God’s help? Or, will we spiral and close our eyes to His help?
👟 Are we going to keep taking the next step even when the race gets hard or are we going to quit?
You aren’t running your spiritual race alone. Open your eyes – God is there right beside you. #runningtherace
