Run With Purpose

So, you’ve decided to enter God’s spiritual marathon. Great! Now what?

Some runners don’t take the training for a race seriously. They enter a race but they aren’t prepare to run it let alone actually try to finish it. Others will train but do not exercise self control before or during the race. They are lackadaisical in their training and that attitude has consequences during the actual race.

It is no different in our spiritual marathon.

Paul tells us if we enter God’s race we should run it in a way that indicates we want to finish it and get our finisher medal. Otherwise, why did we enter? If we enter a race and the train and run haphazardly then that indicates we didn’t really take the race that seriously. Finishing wasn’t all that important to us otherwise we would have been focused and disciplined.

If we enter God’s marathon, Paul gives us two big pieces of advice for the race.

👟 Run it to finish it. Run the race to obtain your reward. In other words, why enter if you don’t intend to finish?
👟 Exercise self control to ensure to ensure you can actually finish the race and receive your medal. Self control is key to keep running and eventually winning the race.

Paul concludes that God’s spiritual race is vastly more important than any earthly race. In an earthly race, your prize perishes. It’s not made of anything of substance. But in our spiritual race, the reward never perishes. It is eternal. The reward for finishing God’s marathon is heaven and eternal life with God.

So, ask yourself:

👟 Have you entered God’s race? If not, why not? The prize for God’s race is worth more than any other prize on this earth so run the race so you may actually obtain it

👟 If you have entered the race, are you running with correctly? Are you running it to actually obtain the prize or are you mindlessly running? You won’t finish the race unless you exercise self control and run with the purpose or intention of actually finishing the race. #runningtherace
