Running God’s Marathon

A month ago today I ran my first marathon. I can still barely believe I actually did it. I never thought I would be physically able to do it OR actually ever WANT to do it. But I did and let me tell you it’s been at least 8 years since I felt that proud of myself. I haven’t don’t something that hard since I defend my dissertation. And I think I may have even more proud of myself for the marathon than the PhD.

So with that in mind and since April is the height of spring marathon season, let’s jump into running the most importance race there is – our race to reach heaven.

The Hebrew writer gives us a great framework for our study.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything weight and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with endurance the race set before us, looking to
Jesus, the author and finisher of faith. (Heb. 12)

To run our spiritual marathon we will need:

👟 Support from others.
👟 Remove anything that distracts or slows us down.
👟 Endurance.
👟 Stay in the marked course.
👟 Start at the right start line – Jesus.
👟 Keep our eyes on the finish line – Jesus.

We will explore in detail all of these in detail.

I couldn’t have run my marathon without the support and help of others, without focus, without endurance, without staying in the marked course, without signing up, and definitely without crossing the finishing line.

The course for our eternal destination has been marked. Registration is still open. Join the race and run the course set up by Jesus. He ran the course first to show us all we could do it too. But, be aware – the marathon for your eternal soul is long. It will take commitment, focus, and endurance. There will be moments of pure joy and moments of pain. You’ll have moments of confidence and moments of doubt. BUT if you push to the end, the reward waiting for you is the best finisher medal you’ll ever receive – your crown in eternal glory with God and Jesus.

So, lace up your shoes and get ready to run as we explore God’s training plan for His marathon – the race for your eternal soul’s destination. #runningtherace
