Have you counted the cost?

Today is the Lord’s Day and in keeping with our theme of gardening, let us consider a question the Lord posed to His disciples.

Who begins a project without first sitting down to count the cost? The answer to Jesus’ rhetorical question here is obvious – no one and if someone does then it would only be a foolish person.

Jesus does not want us to join His cause and follow Him if we have not prepared our hearts for the cost. Just like we would never start a yard project with weighing all the financial, labor, supply, and time costs, we should just take on the mantle of disciple of Christ unless we truly understand what it will cost us.

Jesus tells us how much it will cost to become a true disciple: “Therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple (vs. 33).”

We must be willing to renounce everything – give up everything – for Christ. We cannot hold on tighter to anything but Christ. If we do, we are not a true follower.

Ask yourself today, as you worship God and thank Jesus for His sacrifice, have you truly counted the cost? Are you truly prepared to start become a worker in God’s garden? If not, rededicate your heart and reprioritze your life. Make the proper adjustments.

So, prepare your heart and gather your tools for God’s work. He only wants to most dedicate workers.
