John tells us that God’s love is the kind of that decided to give us the title of His children. He adopted us into His family as one of His children.
Adoption centers one freely giving love to an individual who is outside the circle and placing them within the group as an equal participant. We generally think of this in terms of adopting children. Adoptive parents give their love freely to a child and welcome them into their family unconditionally. They are given the family name. They are treated as equals to other children. They are seen not as “add ons” but as full members of the family.
This is how God loves us. He has adopted us and give His love freely to us. He considers us as part of His family. He has MADE us part of His family.
We are to love like God loves. In this insistence, John shows us that God is generous with His love. He freely gives it away and welcome those who accept it as part of His family. We must be generous with our love and freely give it away equally. We cannot show partiality. We should not only give our love to our select inner group. But instead, we should be willing to generously and freelt give it away so that we can welcome others into our circle and help them become part of God’s family.
If God freely loves, then we too should love others freely and generously. #LearnToLove
