We often say we love others but when the rubber meets the road and we have to actually show others we love them – we balk.
We’re are great most of the time about expressing love; it’s the showing, especially if it requiresres doing something we don’t want, that trips us up.
If we are to love like God loves then we must move beyond verbal expressions of love and get busy demonstrating our love. And to love like God doesn’t mean showing love by doing things that are easy or doing something you want to do – loving like God requires sacrificial demonstrations.
God GAVE up His only son while we were sinners – enemies of God who had done NOTHING to deserve God’s sacrifice. Yet, God’s love was so deep it moved Him to sacrificially to give up Jesus in our place. God didn’t want to have to send His son away to a hostile world to cruelly die for ungrateful sinners BUT God SHOWED His love by GIVING His son.
If we are to love like God, we must be willing to do hard things and be willing to make sacrifices for others so they can SEE our love for them. When we love like that – others see God’s love through our love because we are loving as God loves.
Love works – it shows – it demonstrates its authencity through sacrificial actions. If our love doesn’t sacrifice then its just empty words and meaningless platitudes
