This last month we’ve explored what our purpose in life truly is. We learned that God made us for more than this world has to offer. He created us for good works to glorify His name. We’ve explored lots of different purposes and callings of our life.
But here is the end of the matter. Our whole duty in life is to fear God and keep His commandments. Solomon came to this conclusion after He spent a lifetime pursuing all the empty and worthless purposes this world has to offer. He pursued wealth, education, power, accumulation of things, parties and revelries, career/work, and everything in between. As he reflects back on all of those choices, Solomon realizes they are all worthless if you don’t make God your first purpose.
Everything else in your life fades in comparison to our true calling of fearing and obey God. We fear and respect God because of His awesome nature. His perfect judgment. We obey God because we love Him and we want to please Him. Both our fear and obedience create a life in which everything we do we really do for or because of God. And all the ups and downs of this life, they don’t really matter because they aren’t what our life is truly about.
Our fear and obedience to God helps us stay even-keeled through this life. We never get too low and always put our highs in perspective. We approach life with laser focus – pleasing God.
So, we are motivated to work for God. We are self disciplined enough to tell ourselves no when necessary. We are kind and patient with others even when they try our nerves. We are generous with our blessings. We are good stewards of what God has gifted us. We defend God’s message and God Himseld to those who mock and curse God. We resist Satan’s allurements. We are good citizens. We are peaceful. We show mercy. We set good examples. We help bear the burdens of others. We live a pure and holy life. We help those who are helpless. We are busy telling others about God’s love and His pending judgment.
And in doing all these things, we shine God’s glory in this dark world.
So, here is the end of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments for that is the whole purpose of man. #CreatedForMore #APurposeDrivenLife
