Helping people we love is easy. Helping people we like is easy. But helping people we don’t know can be hard. Helping people don’t like that can be incredibly hard.
But as followers of Christ we are commanded to help others. But so often help those we know and love which is fantastic BUT we are called to help more than those we love.
James tells us that pure and undefiled religion before the Lord is to help orphans and widows which in that culture and time would have been considered two of the most helpless groups. To God helping the helpless is an expression of pure and perfect faith.
Why? Because it is imitation of God’s perfect love since He helped (and helps) us when we were (and are) helpless. So, when we help those who need help we reflecting God’s love to them and the world.
Helping others also helps to keep us humble and less self focused. It helps us to show mercy and grace. It reminds us that this life is hard and at the turn of a dime we could be those who need help. Helping others reminds us that we too one day will need help.
So, next time you have the opportunity to help do so. Not just to those who love and like but to those you don’t know or don’t like. We are God’s helpers here on this earth and God shows no partiality.
We were called to help the helpless. Our purpose in life is to help others so God’s love can be see in our lives. #CreatedForMore #APurposeDrivenLife
