This week we’ve discovered that we were created, chosen, and called to and for God’s purpose. The primary purpose of our life then is to worship and praise God. But our secondary purpose is to engage in good works (Eph. 2:10).
“For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus FOR good works. (Eph. 2)
The much of the remaining portion of this month we are going to investigate what good works really means and includes.
To start, good works obviously are meant to reflect God and His nature as seen in Eph. 2. Paul gives as a little more insight in 2 Thessalonians 3 when encouraging the saints not to be idle or lazy but instead be busy doing good.
There are a variety of ways to do. Some of those ways are for your own salvation, some are for the salvation of others, some are for helping others, and still others are for standing up for God in this world. We will investigate all of them.
But Paul does give us a clue in 2 Thessalonians. Doing good works is hard. He encourages the saints to not grow tired of doing good. Good works are sometimes not appreciated and some times they are hated or ridiculed. And there is always always always a need for more good works. There is always more good works to do so it can become discouraging as you begin to feel your hard work isn’t making a difference.
If our life’s first purpose is to worship and praise God, then our second is to do His good works on this earth. If you aren’t working for God then most of your life is spent not even praising God because it is through your good works that people see God exalted. Worshipping and praising God just once or twice a week isn’t living your life’s purpose. Your life’s purpose to be seen in your life every day. So, the good works you do they are the continuation of your primary purpose.
Whatever you do, do as to and for the Lord because you are really serving Christ. Others will see Him in your life and you will receive the reward for your service (Col. 3).
Good works are a form of praise to God. They help others see Christ living in us. So, don’t grow weary in doing good to others because remember, you are really doing them to and for the Lord.
You were created FOR good works. #CreatedForMore #APurposeDrivenLife
