Called

Have you ever waited for a call for someone? Or waited to be picked for something in school? Or waited to receive an invite to an event? It can be real disappointing if the call or invite never comes. You wonder why you were forgotten or left out.

There is one invitation we’ve all received but so many of us ignore it or forget to respond to it. One call that can change our life here and in eternity. Jesus’ call to us.

The call or calling or called is used repeated in the New Testament to describe Jesus’ invitation to us to live a life with Him.

🗣️ “called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
🗣️ “you were called into one body.” (Colossians 3:15)
🗣️ “called you to His eternal glory.” (1 Peter 5:10)
🗣️ “you have been called.” (1 Peter 2:10)
🗣️ “called to a holy calling.” (2 Timothy 1:9)

These are just a few examples.

However, Jesus tells us the sad reality is “many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22). In one of His last parables, Jesus tells the story of a King hosting a grand wedding feast but many of those He initially invited were too preoccupied to come. They chose something more important so the King invited anyone He could find. Then of those that came one man showed up dress inappropriately demonstrating His lack of respect and appreciation for being invited. He too was thrown out of the party. Jesus concludes – many will be invited but few will be chosen. His meaning is God invites everyone to the feast of His house. We are all called but so many of us don’t accept up the invitation or truly appreciate it that we are not chosen to stay.

You’ve been called to the greatest purpose to ever be known or created. God’s purpose. You’ve been invited by Jesus to walk according to His example and live with Him.

Don’t leave the invitation unanswered. Don’t miss out on the best call you’ll ever receive. And if you’ve accepted God’s invitation walk worthy of that calling least you too be thrown out on that final day.
