Today is the last day of 2023 and the last day of our study on the names of Jesus. It just so happens to also be The Lord’s Day which is a perfect ending to our study.
While Jesus was on earth some believe that He was not God. Today, many claim that Jesus never claimed to be God. But Jesus directly deals with wrong beliefs and claims.
While interacting with the Pharisees who are claiming Jesus must be from the Devil Jesus tells the Pharisees that He is not from the Devil and instead honors His farther who is up in Heaven. If anyone keeps His words, they will never die. This greatly annoyed and angered the Pharisees. They retorted back to Jesus – “Are you greater than our father Abraham who even died? Who are you making yourself out to be!”
Jesus responded to their scoffing question by telling them that He does not need to glorify Himself – His Father whom they call God does. Jesus then told the Pharisees they didn’t really know God because if they did they would not call Him a liar. Then tells them that Abraham rejoiced in the news that he would see Mg day!
Growing even more annoyed the Pharisees shouted, “You’re not even 35 – how can you claim to have seen and talked to Abraham!?”
Jesus turns and directly says “Before Abraham was, I AM.”
Jesus used the name God gave to Moses to declare Himself to the Pharisees. They immediately tried to stone Him for it. They knew what Jesus was claiming. They knew He had just called Himself Jehovah – it’s why they tried to stone Him.
Jesus leaves them and us with no doubts. I am the I AM Jesus proclaimed. Jesus was God.
So, we conclude with Jesus complete name – Jesus the I AM.
Why do we worship Jehovah every Sunday? Because He left Heaven and took on the form on a man named Jesus. Jesus lived the perfect life and died for our sins so that we could be saved and reunited with Him in Heaven. God did that. Jesus did that.
Praise be to Jesus who is the great I AM!
