Resurrection & Life

Jesus declared Himself to be the Resurrection moment before He raised Lazarus from the dead. And while His audience members most likely initially forgot the statement due to the shock factor of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead after dying nearly a week before – the statement surely came back to their minds after the shock wore off.

Then, a few months later when Jesus Himself was killed – the shock of the incident jarred His followers. Yet, after three days Jesus was resurrected against proving to His followers and the world that He is the source of Resurrection and the master over death.

Yet, Jesus the Resurrection is not just someone who can and will raise us from the dead. He is also the source of our spiritual resurrection. Paul tells us we were dead in sin YET through Christ we can live again (Romans 6)! Our souls can be born again – cleansed of our sins – if we respond to Christ calling.

Jesus has defeated death and becomes its master (Romans 6). Jesus is the resurrection of life and one day all the dead shall rise at His command – just like Lazarus when Jesus shouted “Lazarus – come forth!”

Yet, this is not the most important Resurrection. All the dead shall rise but only those who were resurrected spiritually with Christ will return to Heaven with Him. Jesus on the Resurrection Day will separate those who died to sins and were resurrected to a new God life from those who lived their entire lives spiritually dead. He will separate the righteous from the unrighteous (Matthew 25). And those who are found to still be dead after being raise – well they will die again. They will thrown into the lake of fire which will be their realization of their second death. Yet, because Resurrection Day has come there will be no resurrection – no release and no escape – for those who are dead spiritually. But those who are righteous will be taken to Heaven with the Lord and spend all of eternity in the presence of Jehovah and the Lamb.

So the question becomes do you want to live again? If you do, you must die to your sins so you can be resurrected a new person. You must turn to Jesus the source of all Resurrection – there is no other way.
