Redeemer

Redeem isn’t a word we use much anymore and when we do it generally is in relation to coupons. But redeem is a very complex word and has several meanings:

🧾to buy back.
🧾to get it or win back.
🧾to free from distress or harm.
🧾to free from captivity.
🧾to extricate from or help to overcome.
🧾to release from blame or debt.
🧾to free from consequence.
🧾to change for the better.
🧾to repair or restore.
🧾to free from payment.
🧾to atone for.
🧾to make good or worthwhile.

Now, think about the real meaning of that word when you read Job’s proclamation: “For I know that my Redeemer lives and in the end He will stand upon the earth!” (Job 19:25)

If the midst of Job’s suffering (financial ruin, catastrophic family death, unending physical pain, betrayal of friends, and abandoned by His wife), Job proclaims that through all of this He knows that His Redeemer – the one who who release His soul from sin, end His suffering, and make Him better – lives and that in the end He will be victorious!

Job is lightyears away from Jesus and centuries away from the Old Law which more throughly describe the need for redemption yet Job knew that God would send a Redeemer for Him. He knew Jehovah would not leave him in agony. He know God would save Him
from the captivity of this life. He knew Jehovah would restore His soul.

And God did. God sent His Redeemer. Jesus came and paid our ransom with His blood (1 Cor. 7:23). He came to make us better. He came to restore our relationship with God (2 Cor. 5:19). He came to free us from the chains of sin and death (2 Cor. 5:21). He came to atone for our sins (Eph. 1:7). He came to pay our ransom (Matt. 20:28). He came to make us God’s children (Galatians 4:5).

So, centuries and centuries and centuries before Jesus walked this earth, Job knew God would redeem his soul and that God’s Redeemer would reign forever.

Let Jesus be your redeemer. He is waiting to buy you back, make you free, cleanse you of sin, and restore you to God’s family.

Jesus is God’s Great Redeemer and He came to Redeem you!
