There have been lots of rulers in the history of this world. Kings, Queens, Popes, Oligarchs, Tyrants, Caesars, Commanders, Generals, Senates, the Mobs, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Party Leaders, and the list goes on and on.
They’ve come and gone. And while some of them have been extraordinarily good – many have been average at best and most have been terrible. Power corrupts. Greed grows. And even if the ruler started out noble and true, many find debase their virtues for strength, success, and supremacy. It is the nature of rulers and power.
Yet there is one King – one Lord – one Sovereign who has never given in to the temptations of power, greed, and influence. One ruler who though all things belong to Him has yet to become a tyrant. One King who loves His people more than Himself. One Lord seeks and hopes for the best in every situation. One Sovereign who prefers to extend mercy and grace instead of enacting vengeance and justice.
Paul tells us who the one true eternal King and Lord is – Jesus Christ. He alone has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light. To Him dominion overall things and kingdoms and people has been given. He is King over all kings and Lord over all Lords. (1 Timothy 6:15 -16).
And one day, every knee in heaven and that has ever walked on this earth will bow to Him. All will recognize His rule. (Philippians 2:10)
So the question for you is how your recognition and submission will take place. Will you either willingly bow and serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords now or will you be forced to bow before His unapproachable light later? Jesus wants to extend mercy and grace to all but one day will come where He will instead extend justice and punishment to those who have attempted to reject His rule.
Either way – we will all bow before the King of Kings and Lord of Lords – our one true Sovereign. Willing submission will yield grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Forced submission will yield justice and punishment.
The choice is yours.
