Everything built as a foundation. And the quality of every building depends on its foundation. If the foundation is weak or built with the wrong material or crooked or built on the wrong stop, it will crack and break. And the entire building that rests upon it will either fall or need a complete rebuild.
So many people believe they’ve built their lives on the best foundation. Yet in this life or the next, the false foundation they’ve used will crumble and their house will fall. There is only one rock – one foundation – one chief cornerstone that you can know if you build your life on it will not crack or crumble. The true cornerstone is Jesus.
Paul calls Jesus our chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20). He is the main rock and the measuring stone the house of God is built upon. All the prophets and Apostles work for God are built around that cornerstone. The house of God is built upon Jesus. And, if we want to be part of the that house we must realize two things:
- We will never be the chief cornerstone. It is not our house and we are not the main stone. The house belongs to God and its foundation is Jesus.
- We are just one brick in the House of God. We are part of the house yes but just we are just one brick in the House. We aren’t the main feature and we aren’t the only piece.
If we want to dwell in the House of God, we must humble ourselves to God and to others. The house isn’t ours and it isn’t about us.
But, once we’ve accepted that – that knowledge should bring immense peace and ease. We don’t shoulder the foundation of the house. We aren’t responsible for everything. We are just responsible for our brick. And since Jesus is the foundation, we never have to worry about God’s house crumbling, cracking, and needing massive renovations. It is perfect and will never fall.
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:19-22)
