Today is the Lord’s Day! And why do we worship Jesus!? Because He is the sunrise!
God created this natural world for us to live in but also for us to learn from and see Him. In the beginning, the first lessons God gave us was that light destroys the darkness. “Let there be light! (Genesis 1:1)” So, from the very beginning, night could only last so long. And, darkness gave way to the light.
We see this fact every 24 hours. Night settles in but its darkness is dispersed every daybreak with sunrise. The Dayspring breaks up the night to start a new day.
After the birth of his son John, Zacharias (who had been struck mute for laughing at the message of his coming son), is finally able to speak again and the first words he spoke where prophecies about His so. John and the one John came to prepare the way for…the Sunrise.
“Through the tender mercies of our God with which the Sunrise (Dayspring) from on high has visited us to give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace! (LK 1:78-79)
There is not more beautiful on this earth than sunrise – it is glorious in every situation and place. Across the flatlands of west Texas, through the dense trees in Louisiana, breaking above the mountain peaks, through the rains and clouds, rising above skcrapers, and breaking across the ocean horizon. Sunrises mean new beginnings. New chances. A fresh start. The night is over.
Jesus is our Sunrise. He is our Dayspring. He brings light to our world and life. He dispels the darkness from our life. If we hold on to Him tightly, He will always bring at end to our nights. He leads us through this dark world and eventually through the dark pit of death. He guides us to peace with Jehovah.
Blessed be the Dayspring.
Who dispels the darkness,
Who destroys the night,
Who gives us a new day,
Who guides us home!
All glory to be our Sunrise;
Jesus Christ the son of God
