If you’ve ever been fishing in a boat, you know how important having an anchor is to your stay on the water. It keeps you from drifting. And in larger bodies of water like large lakes and open water like the ocean that’s incredible important because the anchor helps you not get lost. It keeps you rooted in place so the waves and winds and the slow movement of the water don’t send you farther than you want to go or disoriented and lost.
The Hebrew writer calls Jesus the anchor of our soul (Hebrews 6:19). Jesus is our life’s anchor as we try to navigate the waters of this life. He keeps us rooted so we don’t get tossed about and loss. He keeps us from slowly floating in the wrong direction. He prevents us from getting lost in the sea of life.
All other weights won’t make it down to the depths of the ocean. They may seem like they’ve anchored you but you aren’t secure. Only Jesus can go and has gone to the depths of the earth and has returned from the pits of darkness (Jonah 2). Only He will see you through the strongest storms and deepest waters. Only He can keep you from drifting.
This life is hard and the hope only we have it making it through is if we have the right anchor. Jesus is the anchor of our soul. So hold fast to Him. Never let Him go. He keep save your soul and bring you out of the storms of this life safely to the shores of Heaven.
