Wonderful Counselor

We all have fears, anxieties, disappointments, hopes, dreams, and struggles. And we look to a lot of different people and places to take those too. There are professions dedicated solely to this task. Whether it’s a friend, professional, parent, anon phone line, church member, elder, preacher, grandparent, teacher, and more, these people help us tremendously through life. They listen. They sympathize. They provide advice. We trust them to help us so we tell them what we are struggling with and we hope they give us the best advice they can.

And while we all need those people in our lives, what we find out as we get older is that even the most trust people or the professionals we pay, make mistakes. Their advice isn’t bulletproof and is sometimes just wrong. Their advice is sometimes driven by agenda or self interest. Their confidence isn’t always complete and what was once private is no longer.

So, many of us clam up and go through life hyper private. We no longer seek out counselors of any kind. We hold everything in and try to compartmentalize our life and problems and worries and hopes. But that solution creates its own self of problems. Resentment, fear, distrust, worries, disappointments, and sadness build and build until they boil over in some type of outbursts and extreme action.

Whats the solution then? Jesus.

Isaiah calls the messiah to come – the Wonderful Counselor. Take your hopes, dreams, sadness, anger, disappointments, and fears to Jesus. Ask Him to help you through them. Ask Him to help you find the right path. Jesus sympathizes with you. He walked as a man. He faced the problems of humanity. Family discord. Death of friends and family. Betrayal. Overwhelmed. Poor. Happiness. Sadness. Loneliness. Physical pain. Death.

He knows what you are going through. He cares for you (1 Peter 5:6-7). He sympathizes (Hebrews 4). He loves you (1 John 4:9).

So, how to we approach Jesus our Wonderful counselor?

✅ Pray. Talk to Jesus. Tell him everything. He will listen. He will sustain you. He will lighten your burdens and cares. (Psalms 55:22, 1 Peter 5:7, Matthew 11:28-30)

✅ Read and study the Scriptures. Jesus is not going to text you His answers or solutions. But He has already given you access to all of His advice. The Scriptures. They are God’s words. They provide help and counsel through every situation. And when you spend more time in God’s word you will hear Jesus’ answers more clearly. It will light your path. It will provide you with only truth. It will give perfect advice every time. (Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:160, Psalm 19:7-9, Psalm 18:30)

You don’t have to go through this life alone. Christ wants to be your counselor. You just have to left Him in to your life. He is waiting to help you make it back home.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given… And he will be called Wonderful Counselor…” (Isaiah 9:6)
