Have you ever had a disagreement with someone (work or family) and needed a third person to serve as the mediator? The person standing in the middle of you both. They listen to both sides and to find an amicable solution to the disagreement. They are the go between. They help bridge the gap between the two sides.
Well, the biggest gap and conflict we will ever have is with God. God cannot be in the presence of sin. He cannot ignore it. He cannot NOT react to it either. He must punish the sinful. It is His nature. Perfection. Perfect justice. Perfect holiness. Perfect judgment. So, our sinful selves put us in direct conflict with God. Our sins have separated us from God (Isaiah 59). We are enemies of God (Romans 5). And there is nothing we can do to bridge that gap by ourselves. We created it with our sin and we cannot undo our sin so the chasm remains.
UNLESS, you give your life to Jesus. Jesus serves as the bridge to bring us back to God. He serves as a mediator for us to God. Jesus’ blood paid the cost of our sin and it reconciles us back to God. Jesus tells God: This person is mine. They’ve put to death their sinful self. They’ve taken on my death. They’ve tried to live the best life they could according to your laws. They’re not perfect BUT my death paid the cost for their imperfection. In other words, Jesus mediates the conflict between us and God which was created by our sin.
Without Jesus, you will have no mediator. There is no one there to build the bridge for you. No one there to intervene with God’s perfect justice requires your death. No one there to reconcile sinful you to Perfect God. So, the chasm will remain and you will fall into its pit.
So, turn to Jesus. Put to death your sinful self. Take on the Lord’s death and live for God daily. If you do that, Jesus will be the bridge for you on that final day. He will be your mediator. He WANTS to do this for you. He DIED so He could intervene for you. Don’t leave Him standing knocking waiting for you to let Him.
“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, Christ Jesus who gave Himself as a ransom for all…” (I Timothy 2:5) #andyoushallcallhim #TheNameOfJesus #Mediator
