The Carpenter

Carpentry is such an amazing skill – building some from nothing but pieces of wood. It requires hard work and can push the limits of your physical abilities. It takes precision, preparation, and patience. It requires vision – being able to see the end result before beginning. It requires adaptability for when something does go as planned.

I don’t think it is a coincidence that Jesus’ profession was carpentry. Before the time of His ministry, Jesus was a carpenter. He was building things. But if we take a deeper look, Jesus the carpenter has spiritual meaning. Jesus tells us precisely what He expects from us. Jesus has given us all we need to be prepared to face the challenges of this life. Jesus is patient with us as He works to craft out lives into their final product. Jesus sees the end result of His work in our lives. He can still work and fix our lives when we mess them up. He is works hard to create our new man.

Jesus is the master builder. We are just the pieces of wood. Let Him build your life. His craftsmanship is perfect. He can take any piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful.

“Is this not the carpenter…?” (Mark 6:3)
