The Light of the World

And you shall call Him…The Light of the World for He shall guide His people out of darkness and into the light!

Have you ever light a match in a dark place? Or turned on a flashlight outside in the middle of the night? Or maybe plugged in a night light so you can see at night? Perhaps you’ve seen a lighthouse at night with its bright lights illuminating the shores? Or maybe the first thing you do when you get home and it’s dark is flip on the light switch? Those lights – regardless of size- expel the darkness around them. They point the way to where you need to go. They prevent you for stumbling or falling. They expose anything hiding in the dark. We know the power of light. We find security and guidance in it every day.

Well, Jesus calls Himself the Light of the World (Jn 8:12) and says those that follow Him no longer will have to walk in darkness but will walk in the light of life…His life. The Apostle John calls Jesus the Light (Jn. 1:4) of men which exposes and shines through the darkness.

Jesus ends the darkness. He opens our eyes so that we are no longer blind (Jn 9) to the tactics of the Devil. He is the beacon we follow through the darkness of this world. He leads us back to God.

John would later write that God is light and no darkness is found in Him (1 John 1:5). Jesus is the manifestation of God’s light. No darkness can penetrate the light of God…Jesus.

Are you lost in the dark? Frantically searching through the maze and dark of this light? Do you feel like evil and wickedness surround you and you have no power to expel it? Turn to Jesus and follow His light. He will lead you through the darkness and protect you from the night.

“I am the Light of the World. He who follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but have the light of light.” (Jn. 8:12)
