When something is far away, you can’t make out the details. Its fuzzy. Blurry. But the closer you get the clear whatever your looking at becomes. The same can be said about relationships. The further away you become the more fuzzy the relationship. You lose sight of the details. But the closer you try to stay the more you know about your friend and the details of their life as crystal clear. And in relationships generally the party responsible for the distance is the one responsible for bridging it. Afterall, relationships are a two way street. If one person hurt the relationship, then generally we expect them to fix it. We rarely try to fix a broken relationship bridge if we aren’t the ones who broke it.
Paul described our relationship with God in these terms. Before Christ, we were far off. Our relationship strained. We did not grasp the details of God and His will.
But Christ came and everything changed. We now can become near and close to God because of Jesus. We don’t have to stand afar off from His throne room nor do we have to ask priests to intercede for us. No. We can come boldly to God’s throne. We can talk with God directly. Our relationship can be as crystal clear as we allow it to be. And that’s all because Christ bridged the gap created by our sin. God didn’t have to fix the broken bridge – He wanted to! And the only way to do it was through the blood of His only son. So, Christ’s blood is the bridge that brings of close to God. All you have to do is cross it. God is waiting for you.
Don’t stand far off. God has repaired the bridge. Cross the bridge.
