All the great love stories written throughout history – even the tragic ones- have several common traits. Unrequited love. Seperation. Angst. Hurt. Confessions. Heroism. Reunions. Sacrifice. The greater the love the bigger all of those things end up being which makes the reunions and happy endings even more grand.
God’s love for us is the greatest love story ever known or that will ever be known! God loved us even when we were still His enemy. He loved us so much He was willing to do anything to rescue us from the clutches of His enemy. So much so that He sacrificed His only son – a part of Himself – Jesus to save us. Jesus gave up heaven and the glories of His throne and walked among His creation. He was mistreated and hungry. He was beaten and mocked. He was betrayed and left alone. He was murdered. And He allowed it all to happen so that He could save us from sin and Satan. Jesus defeated death and sin to provide us a pathway back to God the Father.
Jesus model God’s love for us perfectly on earth.
Jesus was patient.
Jesus was kind.
Jesus did not boast.
Jesus did not envy.
Jesus was not arrogant.
Jesus was not rude.
Jesus did not insist to have His own way.
Jesus was not annoyed.
Jesus was not resentful.
Jesus did not rejoice in wrongdoings.
Jesus rejoiced in the truth.
Jesus bore all things.
Jesus hoped all things.
Jesus endured all things.
Jesus never failed.
He did all those to so we would see God’s great love for us in realtime action and living. He was the light illuminating the path back to God. And since Jesus Himself is an extension of God the Father – God did and still does all those things for us. His love is the greatest love ever known.
As humans, we all long for the perfect love. It’s why we gravitate to epic love stories. Yet because we are humans we can never truly find that perfect love in each other because we cannot do all those things listed above perpetually perfect for a lifetime and beyond. We disappoint others. We seek our own interests. We get arrogant. We become resentful. We envy. We boast. We neglect. We snap. We give up hope. We fail. And we all know it. So, we are constantly looking for the perfect love in fiction stories. But I’m here to tell you we don’t need to look to fiction to find it. All we need to do is look to God for GOD IS LOVE.
Praise Jehovah for His great and never ending perfect love!
