Lately I’ve become really interested (borderline obsessed) with the art of wax sealing. I want my own kit. I’ve looked into the stamps and the process. (Who needs envelope stickers when you can wax seal them!) The art of wax sealing has been over for ages and ages and ages. Back in Roman times envelops didn’t have sticky stuff to lick or peel sticky packs to seal them. You had to use wax to close and seal an envelope to protect it from prying eyes and mark it has coming from you. Wax sealing was also used as stamps for approval. At the end of documents or decrees rulers would seal the documents with their crest in the wax seal to show approval and authority. So while wax sealing in today’s work is simply an art form, it carried much more significant in Biblical times. Protection. Assocation. Authority. Approval.
Paul tells us we are sealed by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit wax seals believers in the load. He marks us as belonging to God. He protects us from Satan. He gives us public association with God. We have God’s approval. The seal of the spirit of God represents the authenticity of our relationship with God. It is a sign to us that God recognizes us as His and a sign to the world and Satan that we belong to God.
So when the world and Satan lie to you and tell you that you have no one – remember, if you’re an obedient believer in Christ, God’s spirit has sealed you. You belong to Him.
Thus says the LORD:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, YOU ARE MINE.” (Isaiah 43)
Nothing can break that seal but your decisions. Follow God and be sealed by the Holy Spirit. Follow the world and be sealed by Satan. The choice in whose wax sealer stamps your life is yours. Choose wisely.
