We all love coupons. They make purchases less expensive or offset the high price. Once you get one, boy howdy – you plan on using it. We hold on to them, we collect them, and then cash them all in because hey life is expensive – really expensive now. You were given that coupon – you didn’t just make it yourself. Someone else had to provide it for you.
Well, God has done that for us. He had provided the coupon. He has provided the redeeming trait. We’ve got a lot of red in our ledgers. Our sin is expensive and we can’t pay for it ourselves. We can at best acknowledge them and try to atone for them and not add more red but all of those actions won’t clear out our ledger. Nothing we can do will be enough to wipe it clean. So, God offers us His redemption through the blood of His son Jesus.
Redemption’s root word is redeem. Redeem means to offset or compensate for a defect or fault – to free from harm or distress – to release from or erase debt – to pay a ransom.
We can do none of those things for ourselves. We can not offset our sin. We cannot free ourselves from the harm and consequence of sin. We cannot erase the debt we owe because of our sin. We cannot pay the ransom price Satan holds over own soul. Only God can do ALL of those things.
And the good news is – He already has! He sent Jesus to die on the cross because only that action of purse sacrifice and only Jesus’ blood could redeem our souls from the pit of Hell. The only true expensive thing we have is our soul and once we sin – we’ve given it away to the Devil. So, something more precious and more valuable was going to have to been spent for God to pay the ransom for our soul. Jesus’ blood.
We will never be able to thank God enough for our redemption. He paid the ultimate price so that we could be redeemed – bought back. We providing the one redeeming trait. But only those who turn back to God – only those who do what God says – only those that love God and appreciate His sacrifice will have access to His redemption.
God has printed His coupon – JESUS BLOOD. It is available everyone and everywhere but not everyone will cut it out and use it. Only those who do will have access to God’s redemption. And there is an expiration date. God has set it. We only have a set about of time to use it because one day Jesus will return and He will let the coupon cutters cash in their redemption but only those who have held on to the coupon – Christ’s Blood – for their soul until the very end.
