Today is the Lord’s Day.
One of the resounding themes in Proverbs is the idea of “fearing the Lord.” You find the phrase repeatedly. I’ve said this theme as my last Proverb post because of the level of importance fear of the Lord is given in the proverbs. We life to minimize the notion we should fear the Lord. It makes us uncomfortable. We’d rather dwell on God’s love and mercy. But God is also the God of Justice and Judgment. As the maker of Heaven and earth and the source of salvation, He had every right to judge us for how we live our life here. And He will. That fact should motivate us to a healthy fear and respect of Jehovah. Without the proper fear of God, our relationship with God is never quite right. We must love God AND fear God. Both are required to living a Godly obedient life.
Here are the proverbs on the fear of God:
⭐️Proverbs 1:7 – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
⭐️Proverbs 1:29,30 – “Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, they would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke.”
⭐️Proverbs 2:5 – “Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”
⭐️Proverbs 3:7 – “Do not be wise in the your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.”
⭐️Proverbs 8:13 – “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.”
⭐️Proverbs 9:10 – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.”
⭐️Proverbs 10:27 – “The fear of the LORD prolongs days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened.”
⭐️Proverbs 14:26 – “In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge.”
⭐️Proverbs 14:27 – “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death.”
⭐️Proverbs 15:16 – “Better is little with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure with trouble.”.
⭐️Proverbs 16:6 – “In mercy and truth atonement is provided for iniquity, and by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.”
⭐️Proverbs 19:23 – “The fear of the LORD leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; he will not be visited with evil.”
⭐️Proverbs 22:4 – “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and life.”
⭐️Proverbs 23:17 – “Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day.”
⭐️Proverbs 24:21 – “My son, fear the LORD and the king; do not associate with those given to change.”
Look at all the things the proper fear and respect for the Lord does for us.
⚡️It is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom.
⚡️Leads us to depart from evil.
⚡️Leads us to hate evil and wickedness.
⚡️Prolongs our life.
⚡️Strengthens our confidence.
⚡️Serves as a refuge.
⚡️Helps us find atonement.
⚡️Blesses us with spiritual blessings and life.
⚡️Keeps us zealous for the Lord.
⚡️Teaches us respect for earthly authority.
⚡️Serves as a fountain of life.
⚡️Keeps us from the snares of Satan.
It’s the Lord’s day. Do you have the proper fear and respect of and for Him? Do you say you love God but don’t believe He will hold you accountable? God is both love and justice. We must have the proper fear of God – it is a commandment not a suggestion or request. We must fear the Lord because it motives us to live for Him and helps us avoid the traps of the Devil.
So, one last time. Do you have the fear of the Lord? You should because you will need it to make it through life in order to be reunited with Jehovah in the next.
