Logorrhea is excessive and often incoherent talkativeness or wordiness. In other words, itโs word vomit. Spewing at the mouth.
Ever met some one who struggles with logorrhea. They talk excessively. How often does their endless talking lead to something productive? In my personal experience – zero percent of the time. I generally leave the company of an excessive talker feeling:
A. Annoyed with the useless talking.
B. Frustrated with myself for probably engaging with their useless talking at some point.
C. Emotionally and intelligently spent.
D. All of the above.
The answer for me is D.
Solomon teaches us to not only avoid the excessive talkers but also not to become a word vomiter. The righteous person ponders what they say while the wicked just pours from their mouth. A godly person thinks before they speak while the wicked just spews their thoughts.
What is the wicked man spewing?
๐ Complaints.
๐ Gossip.
๐ Inappropriate jokes.
๐ Cruelty.
๐ Lies.
๐ Thoughtless reactions.
๐ Unkindness.
The list goes on and on. But the big takeaway is that all of these things require little to no thinking. The wicked are just spewing. They are a word vomiter. Constantly talking but the talk is disgusting. Not profitable. Unhealthy.
Well then, what is a righteous person thinking about?
๐How to answer is a wisely.
๐How to steer the conversation away from gossips and complaints.
๐ Ways to be kind.
๐ Truthful responses.
๐ Productive/ constructive criticisms.
๐ Godโs expectations and commandments related to our talking.
When we engage in word vomit there is always – ALWAYS – a mess to clean up. Clean up on Aisle Whoever youโve wronged with your excessive talking. And, the clean up is gross. It often takes a long time and sometimes you can never get the surface complete pure white and clean again. Itโs been sullied and the aftereffects will always be present – even if theyโre nearly gone or fade over time.
Thereโs no clean up for a righteous person. Why? Because they are always thinking before they react. Delivering whatever they are saying in a Godly productive and kind way. Now, sometimes the words from a righteous person may sting a little if itโs a hard truth or a kind criticism but the words are meant to clean, help and purify not sully and destroy. Ultimately, the talking of the righteous makes things better not worse.
So, a righteous person always thinks first and reacts second while the wicked spew their reactions immediately. Ask yourself – are you someone who thinks before they speak or do you engage in logorrhea ? Does your talking make things better or does it make things worse?
Are you a word vomiter?
