Which way, which way?

I’m just awful at using cardinal directions. There are four cardinal directions. So when navigating, you can head in a variety of directions. Northwest. Southwest. Northeast. Southwest. North. South. East. West. North by northwest. You get the point. Anyway – I get so confused. Thank goodness for the compass app on my watch.

But ultimately, when trying to get somewhere there are tell only two directions – the right way and the wrong way. You will either end up at your destination or not. For example, the was evident my last hiking trip in Lincoln National Forest as my friend and I tried to figure out where the trail had gone because fires had destroyed the path and it was just a valley of dead trees but no path or markers. We went the direction we thought but it was wrong. So we had to double back and find the right path. (We did eventually and it was worth it!)

Solomon teaches us the decisions we make related to how we will live really boils down to two directions – life and death. Sometimes, we get the mistaken idea that because we make some many choices and there are so many different directions to choose in this life that as we can all take a different route and get to the same place. And, while we all have different lives to transverse, we all only have two directions we can take. The path that leads to life or the path that leads to death.

Righteousness is the only path to way to life. It’s the only way to get to our destination- to be reunited with God. All other life directions and choices we take us to the same place – the wrong place – death.

Navigating this life is hard. Every choice we make either keeps us on the right path and turns us to the wrong path. But make no mistake – there is only one direction to life and it is with God. All other directions will eventually lead you to death.

So dust off your Bible – it’s the compass God gave you to find His path. He doesn’t want you to get lost and end up on the pathway to death. But the only way to make sure is to follow His trail map.
