Talk vs. Work

We all have grand ideas and suggestions for how to improve things. We like to talk about how if we were in charge or if we had the power or were in that situation, then we would do whatever it is this way. We do this all the time: at work – in our relationships – about government/politics – and we even do this with our local church. We’ve all got ideas and man do we like sharing them.

But, after we share them – that’s all we generally do. So, basically we like to talk about improving things or changing things or what iffying situations but when the rubber meets the road – that’s all it is. Talk.

Solomon teaches us that mere talk profits nothing but hard work leads to profit. Yes, this proverb is true in earthly things like work, family issues, politics, community issues, and the list could continue. We talk a big game but rarely walk it. But, since Solomon’s wisdom came directly from God – it’s application doesn’t just stop with worldly situations.

If we are frustrated by issues at our local church, we like to talk about it and then we like to add our “ideas” for improving whatever situation is frustrating us. Yet, many times we just leave those ideas there. We do not take the initiative bring those ideas to fruition. We also do this when it comes to evangelism and teaching others about the Lord. If we had this situation, this is what we’d do. Yada yada. But, rarely do the work to create the situations we need or when they actually present themselves – we just lazily watch them pass by.

It ought not be this way!

⚫️Wish to there was more community outreach, organize it yourself!
⚫️Tired of the Bible classes or the teachers or the topics, volunteer to teach!
⚫️Annoyed no one seems to listen to your ideas, become a better listener to others.
⚫️Looking for new curriculum for your kids Bible classes, help design new ones!
⚫️Feel left out or unseen, invite people and host!
⚫️Frustrated you never seem to have the opportunity to talk about Jesus (I promise you do), then break up your habits and put yourself in new situations! Or, merely open your eyes and ears a little more and act on the opportunities God does give you.
⚫️ Feel disconnected from God, pray more and read His words!

God calls and commands us to be doers, not talkers. And He promises us that our work will not come back empty or void. The only thing that is useless to God is empty talking.

So stop talking and start working!
