Look Directly Forward

Have you ever walked a treacherous path? Or, tried to balance and walk on a narrow surface. Or, driven up a steep mountain? I love trekking up mountains and some times that means walking on paths that are narrow and dangerous. Looking to the left or right is a sure fire way to lose your footing especially if there’s not a lot of room on the path itself. But oh man, I do love look sometimes. The views, the sky, the birds, the trees – I want to see them all. And it always happens that if I get too distracted with looking around that I stumble and sometimes even trip and fall.

That’s life here on earth. It’s a treacherous trail with lots and lots of distractions. Some distractions even look nice and aren’t necessary wrong but they still distract our eyes from the narrow path which God has called us to walk.

The best way to avoid stumbling, tripping, or even falling is to heed the Lord’s instructions for life. “Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is life.” (Proverbs 4)

So, to reach the top – Mount Zion…God’s mountain. We’ve got to stay on the path and not get distracted. We’ve got to carefully consider each step and make sure we follow the right trail. God’s given us the trail map and He promises we won’t get lost if we just follow it.

“Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet: then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left, turn your foot away from evil.” (Proverbs 4)
