The Immovable Mountain

Psalm 125 is another Psalm of Ascent and Praise to God. The Psalm reads:

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people,
from this time forth and forevermore.

For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
on the land allotted to the righteous,
lest the righteous stretch out
    their hands to do wrong.
Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
and to those who are upright in their hearts!
But those who turn aside to their crooked ways
the Lord will lead away with evildoers!
    Peace be upon Israel!

The Psalmist declares that those who trust in God cannot be moved and will abide forever – just like Mount Zion. He proclaims that just like the mountains that surround and protect the city of Jerusalem, so does God surround and protect His people from now and until forever.

The wicked will never cease to stretch their hand out against the righteous because they fear one day the righteous will retaliate in kind. But, their endless attacks will not harm the righteous because God protects them nor will the righteous return evil for evil. Instead, they trust in God to protect them. And since they trust in God, God protects them forever.

🏔️ The Righteous are like Mount Zion – the mountain that cannot be moved and abides forever because its creator and protector is God. #TheMountainsofGod #MountaineeringForGod
